I would love to just embed this YouTube video by an artist who produced a show of catfight paintings. But I'm not going to because I'm not sure she would appreciate having her work identified in any way with what I do.
At the same time, I think what she has to say is worth listening to, and I would like everyone to watch it and at least consider it.
Her show was called CATFIGHT: (Hello, Nurse).
You may find her assessment of male catfight fans objectionable. My own response is that yes, that's probably how we look to a lot of women – even the women who earn income producing content for our pleasure.
I don't know how we change the image of ourselves as dirty, slobbering old perverts.
I will only say that she seems to be an artist providing some thought-provoking ideas, and I hope you'll refrain from making hostile comments. Every artist deserves support.
And yeah, I'd totally wrestle her.
She actually seemed kind of ironic, in a level that to me, reveals her being pissed off about something that has to do with catfighting, as if she just found out her bf has that fetish and she doesn't like it.

Other than that, i enjoyed that mini documentary and hope there will be more like it, trying to (subjectively) explain the catfighting fetish.

ReplyDeleteI think you can objectify a person without 'looking down' on them. The guy who puts a woman he barely knows up on a pedestal (as I frequently did as a young man) is objectifying her just as much as the guy who watches a porn video and then, in his own mind, puts down the female performers as sluts or whores.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get the idea she was pissed off about it, but rather that she has some attraction/interest, and, like all the rest of us, can't explain why.
My own impression is that she likes catfights not for the sexual aspect, but because it's a way of undermining society's perceptions of feminine roles. On the other hand, her decision to use 'naughty nurse' costumes instead of scrubs, and that long slow shot of her smearing paint across her chest (Hello, artist!), suggests she definitely 'gets' the erotic overtones.
Actually, it just goes to show that there isn't a ONE, SINGLE, ALL INCLUSIVE reason why some men AND women, are turned on by watching, or even the thought of watching two competitive women fight it out.

Like her, I am a big fan of what she calls the 'fake fight'.

As I've written before, YouTube videos where two women (or more likely, teenage girls) are fighting, with a crowd of yahoos egging them on, strike me as repugnant.
