Your input requested

I'm curious about your reaction to some of the technical aspects of Cavegirl Combat. I'm far enough into it that I'm not going to make any changes at this point, but I'd like to know your thoughts before I begin another project.

I'd like to know, first of all, if you're comfortable with the size and shape of the pages.

Are they easy to follow presented horizontally, instead of the traditional vertical comic book format?

And are the pages too large or too small for your screen? Is the lettering readable?

When I started this, I was simply trying to post one page a week of what would end up being like a comic book. But now, it feels like it's starting to take on some of the aspects of an old-fashioned Sunday newspaper strip, and I'm  wondering whether to move further in that direction. It's a little hard to do plotting when the entire narrative is one long fight – but would it be more interesting if it went in that direction? (It may be too early to answer this question. I forget that I'm much farther into the story than you are as a reader.)

Even if you don't normally comment, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

  1. I think it's fine as is.

Posting a comment in these blogspot blogs is not an easy task. I can't get in with my account so I just don't try anymore.

  4. I think your layout and approach for the cave girl fight is perfect: I wouldn't change a thing. I can't wait to see them come to blows!!! (a female fan).

  5. I'm in agreement with the others, the current format is fine. While good artists always fret and fuss over the little things, but here you got them right on the first try.

  6. So far, the settings for the current format is great. They are just the right size it looks like.

  7. The Sunday strip format seems to give it some kind of charm, I don't know why, maybe because I'm not used to it. Works smoothly although till now there're not too many things happening. I'm eager to see how the narrative works when there are more elements

I would like a larger pic to look every detail, but as it is now it's great enough.

  8. PalomaJara, that's kind of what I'm talking about. I started out sort of pacing this thing as if it were something to be delivered in a single package. There are several other full-page panels ahead. I think these work if you're reading this, as I am, one page after another. But if someone waits a week for the next installment, and it's a page with just one event, it seems like it might be a bit of a letdown.

Rik, I don't know what to tell you about your commenting problems. Are you actually logged in to Blogger when you comment?

  9. I agree with the current format. We haven't gone far enough along in the story for me to say otherwise. So far it is great.

  10. So far everything flows nicely.

You don't have to be the prisoner of a format, since this is online. Example: if you want to have one page be vertically oriented, rotated ninety degrees, that would be much less jarring here than in a comic book. Feel free to let the story dictate how you format the art.

  11. It not a let down at all. I post many Asian catfights in Joevideo's forum and I usually edit out the crowd and other things that are annoying. But most of them want to see the build-up to the fight, so I don't think there will be disapointment or let down.

And yes, I'm logged in always. Maybe I'm not picking the correct "Comment as:" Forums and blogs shouldn't be this difficult...or maybe I'm not smart. :D

  12. I agree with many of the other comments. The format is fantastic as you have it. The size of the images and readability are great, just as they are.

Thank you for asking, and thank you for all the great work. The story is fantastic and I'm absolutely looking forward to reading more.

  13. Although i grew up reading comic books, and my first experience of catfight stories was in that particular format i think your work is fine the way it is. I would however prefer the panels to be slightly larger, i agree with palomajara that it would help to pick out the detail.

  14. Lettering and format are both fine by me. I really have no problems with anything. Thanks.

  15. This is the first time I've posted a comment. Thanks for the opportunity to do so.

I think the Cavegirl format is great as is, but I'm curious how it will work once the girls actually start to fight. I mean, the Sunday strip format you mention works for the build up to the fight, but once the girls actually start fighting, how often will updates appear? How long with the fight be?

I guess I tend to be sort of impatient, so when the fight starts, I'll be anxious to see the whole thing through. But that's just me.

Your artwork is fantastic, and I enjoy this site very much.

Have you ever thought about doing a fight between younger girls? Say ages 12 to 16?

    Thanks again for your efforts.

  16. Last question first: I would not consider doing a story involving girls that age, or anything involving minors. I won't even include minors as incidental characters.

I know there's material of that sort out there, but it's not for me.

As for the first question, updates will continue to appear every Monday – or at least that's the plan. The sketches for each page are essentially done, although I find myself making significant modifications on the fly.

99% of the work now is the color, which is by far the most time-consuming phase.

In its own time, I think the fight lasts about 30-45 minutes. Plus there's an epilogue.

As far as how many weeks it will run, I haven't counted, but I'm pretty sure we'll getting near the end in August or September. I'm working right now on the page that will appear the first week of March.

I'm trying to finish one and a half to two pages a week, but right now it's more like one a week. If I can pick up the pace and build some more lead time, I have some other ideas for stories I'd like to do and post on other days – every Wednesday or Thursday, for example.

  17. Your format is great, wouldn't change the comic strip pages, the multi-statement scenario adds to the artwork. Size, always enjoy seeing the detail, especially since I'm a huge fan of boob and erotic attention in a fight. Your drawing ability and imagination comes through strong with your facial expression and body movements.

As for your comments on this last post, I agree entirely. Putting minors in the scene is not cool. If it is your fantasy, keep it to yourself.
