Managing 10,000 files

The hard drive which contains all my drawings has 10,312 files on it. Many of those are copies, and many are incremental versions of drawings in various stages of completion.

Still, that's a lot of stuff to keep track of. You know your fetish has gotten out of hand when you're looking at commercial-grade digital asset managers to handle it.

(In all fairness, I originally got into digital asset management to keep track of my professional artwork for clients and employers. But the databases for the catfight stuff far exceed the business databases in size.)

And thank god for computer graphics. If this were all flat files, I'd have to rent a warehouse to store them.

I've tried a lot of asset managers. Fortunately, it's just me that needs to use it, so I didn't have to spend thousands of dollars on a client-server setup.

I'm very happy with what I'm using right now. If you're interested, email me and I'll tell you about it. I have no vested interest in the product. I'm just glad it works for me and would be happy to share my experience with it.

The art: another fragment of some unfinished something from 1996. The forearms of the girl on top look a little short; maybe I'll fix that.
